Join in and Start Living a Healthier Life! Did you know that of all Hispanics living in the United States, 12.8 percent of them are living with diabetes? The American Diabetes Association is kicking off a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month by calling on people with type 2 diabetes to increase their physical activity and eat healthier to Stop Diabetes®. From Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, the Association will conduct activities showcasing the benefits of being active and eating healthy to help manage diabetes and reduce risks of developing diabetes complications. We encourage people from across the country to join in the celebration and participate in healthy living during one of our many events scheduled throughout the month!
Team up to Stop Diabetes! Are you ready to join the fight to Stop Diabetes? Our Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes® event takes place in 108 cities nationwide. Last year, we raised almost $24 million to support the Association’s mission to prevent and cure diabetes, and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. Want to help lead the fight? Form a team today by registering to be a Team Captain at an event near you. Teams come in all sizes and different backgrounds. Whether you gather your friends, family, coworkers or classmates, starting a Step Out team is a great way to honor or remember a loved one with diabetes. Walk for them. Walk for yourself. Share your story.
Earn Rewards for Healthy Choices! Now, every time you make a healthy choice—like walking, running or testing your blood glucose—you can earn rewards that help encourage you to get, stay and live well. The American Diabetes Association is working in collaboration with Walgreens, a National Strategic Partner of the Association, to get the word out about their new Balance® Rewards Program that helps support a healthy and active lifestyle. Balance Rewards is the first retail rewards program that rewards participants for their healthy choices. For every person that joins the Balance Rewards program, Walgreens will donate $1 to the Association through Dec. 31, 2014, up to $50,000.
Meet our Stop Diabetes Ambassadors! You see them on TV, hear them on the radio or watch them play your favorite sport—celebrities are everywhere. But did you know that some of them are also helping the Association in the fight to Stop Diabetes? Whether they themselves have diabetes or have a loved one with diabetes, these stars know firsthand just how serious diabetes is. From rapper Lil Jon to singer and actress Patti LaBelle to NASCAR driver Ryan Reed, learn more about the passion and commitment each one has to raising diabetes awareness and ending this disease once and for all.
