My name is Alexys Fleming. When I was 13 years old, I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
It was a drastic life change. Doctors were telling me I could lose my limbs or my eyesight, or my life! I had to relearn how to eat. I had to check my blood and take shots all the time. I was in complete denial.
School was awful. The other students didn't understand how my life had changed and many were incredibly mean. I no longer fit in and I lost all of my friends. I was struggling and felt really alone. It was a terrible time.
I'm 21 now, and so much has changed. I know that I am not alone. I deal with diabetes through my art and humor which has led to a life filled with artistic expression. I have friends. I have support. Life is full of possibilities.
 Diabetes will not hold me back from my dreams. I would love to be able to say I USED to have diabetes. Your gift will bring us one step closer to that day. Please don't let this generous matching donation slip away.
