This month is American Diabetes Month (ADM), a time to seize the nation's attention on the issues surrounding diabetes and the millions of people who are impacted by the disease every day. Open Enrollment Begins November 15 Open enrollment for the Health Insurance Marketplaces begins Nov. 15, 2014, and runs until Feb. 15, 2015. During the open enrollment period, individuals and families can shop for and purchase health insurance coverage within their state Marketplace, or make changes to their current Marketplace plan. Because of the Affordable Care Act, individuals can’t be denied coverage or charged more because of a preexisting condition, such as diabetes. Eligible people can get financial assistance to help pay for a plan purchased within the Marketplaces. The American Diabetes Association has developed fact sheets on the Health Insurance Marketplaces and on Health Insurance Protections to help people living with, or caring for someone with, diabetes.
