Alert Day Campaign off to a Great Start! American Diabetes Association Alert Day® was on March 24, but that doesn’t mean you’ve missed the chance to know your risk for type 2 diabetes. The Association’s campaign continues through April 21 and we’re asking you to take and share the Diabetes Risk Test with everyone you love – one of them may be at risk. Once you’ve taken the test, start living a more active lifestyle by signing up for one of the Association’s nationwide Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes events. There has never been a more urgent time to know your risk. As the Association celebrates its 75th anniversary, an estimated 86 million, or one in three American adults, have prediabetes. We know our efforts to shed a light on this disease are even more urgent now than ever. | Advertisement |
| 2015 National Volunteer Appreciation Week
Celebrating Our Volunteers’ Service This week, we celebrate National Volunteer Appreciation Week (NVAW). NVAW is about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their communities. As the American Diabetes Association celebrates its 75th anniversary, this is an excellent opportunity for the Association to recognize and honor our volunteers who are already doing so for the cause of diabetes. It’s also a great way to demonstrate to the nation that by working together, our volunteers and staff have the fortitude to meet our challenges and accomplish our goals. Know a volunteer? Let them know you value the incredible work they do to carry our mission forward. This is also an excellent time to become a volunteer. If you or someone you know would like a life-changing volunteer opportunity, go to our Volunteer Center to find out what’s available near you. We need you in the fight to Stop Diabetes®. | | Limb Loss Awareness Month
Don’t Let Diabetes Knock You Off Your Feet With April being Limb Loss Awareness Month, it is the perfect time to discuss simple steps you can take to Stop Diabetes® from knocking you off your feet. People with diabetes can develop many different foot problems, making them more likely to have a foot or leg amputated than other people. Even ordinary problems can get worse and lead to serious complications. The good news is that you can prevent most foot troubles and amputations with regular attention and proper footwear. By taking the steps needed to make foot care part of your routine, you can Stop Diabetes from knocking you off your feet. |
