My name is Kevin Hagan and I will be the new chief executive of the American Diabetes Association effective this June. It's my great honor to work with you to begin a bold new chapter of the Stop Diabetes® movement.
Finding a cure for diabetes is personal and urgent for me. Diabetes runs in my family. I feel its devastation. I know firsthand the staggering toll it takes on a family, and on our society.
And I know we must do more. I know we must do everything possible to end diabetes.
In our 75 years of existence, the American Diabetes Association has funded research and provided help and support to people with diabetes that has dramatically improved the lives of millions of Americans. And for every precious life we've touched, we have a committed supporter like you to thank.
But we still don't have a cure for diabetes. And there are millions of American families wishing for one every single day.
The statistics are staggering. Diabetes contributes to the death of more than 234,000 Americans each year, and the total economic cost of diabetes is a staggering $245 billion each year.
That's why we've set this ambitious goal of raising $200,000 this spring, just for diabetes research.
My goal as Chief Executive Officer is clear — build on our history of fighting for the rights and needs of people with diabetes, and finally put an end to diabetes and its deadly devastation.
For you. For me. For generations to come.
Thank you for doing your part to make our progress possible. We couldn't do any of it without you.
With gratitude, Kevin L. Hagan Incoming Chief Executive Officer American Diabetes Association
