| Dear Andrea, November is American Diabetes Month and you have the opportunity to change the future of this devastating disease. We know the sad facts: nearly 30 million Americans have diabetes, and over 86 million more have prediabetes. If we don't take action now, one out of three adults will have diabetes by 2050. Congress is preparing to make important funding decisions in November. It is critical our representatives increase resources for type 1 and type 2 diabetes research and programs at the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Current funding is too low. The diabetes epidemic demands a deeper investment. Tell your members of Congress it's vital they do their part to Stop Diabetes® by passing an omnibus appropriations bill that provides increased funding for diabetes research and programs. That is the best way to ensure these programs have the resources needed to improve diabetes innovation, prevention, and treatment to prevent costly complications and – ultimately – to find a cure. Congress needs to make stopping the diabetes epidemic a national priority. Will you tell Congress to support all those living with, and at risk for, diabetes? If we are going to Stop Diabetes, we must tell members of Congress today to pass an omnibus appropriations bill and fully fund diabetes research and prevention programs. Together, we can Stop Diabetes! Janel Wright Chair of the Board American Diabetes Association P.S. Sending a letter to your members of Congress takes just a minute—we've even drafted a message that you can tailor for your use! |
