Advertisement | Protecting your rights At the American Diabetes Association®, it is our honor to fight for the rights of all people who live with diabetes. Last month, we put that mission into action when we partnered with a California family to file a lawsuit to end discrimination in the U.S. Army Child, Youth & School Services programs. We seek to remove the Army CYSS’s discriminatory childcare policy that prohibits staff from assisting children with diabetes management, effectively excluding them from access to these programs. | | Get moving in your community If you’re passionate about stopping diabetes — but there isn’t a Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes® event near you — we have a solution: Community Walk to Stop Diabetes. We give you the resources to get friends, family and neighbors involved in planning a walk of your own. Find or start a walk near you today! | Get inspired Full of stories about courage, love and resilience, our Diabetes Stops Here blog has long been a place to read about life with diabetes. Recent stories include profiles of kids who have attended our Diabetes Camps, Tour de Cure® riders, our dedicated staff members and a runner with type 1 who trained for a half marathon on our behalf. Whether you’re a regular reader or have never visited, these inspirational stories could just make your day. Don’t scramble during dinner As the founder of the dinner-planning service The Six O’Clock Scramble, Aviva Goldfarb has a solution for weeknight meals: quick and easy family recipes. Now she’s sharing some of those recipes in her new American Diabetes Association cookbook. From baked breadsticks to Dijon chicken and more — we bet there’s something to enjoy for even the pickiest eater in your family. Keeping children safe at school — live! Many children with diabetes do not receive the right and proper care they need while they are attending school — which is why we work to keep them safe. Crystal Jackson, Director of our Safe at School program, and Maryland Diabetes Advocate Jennifer Holdgreve took to our Facebook page to discuss how to prepare for the coming school year. If you missed this live event, complete with audience Q&A, you can still catch up with the recording. |
