 | | Dear Andrea, Today kicks off American Diabetes Month®, our time to come together and raise awareness of diabetes, its impact and its realities. We’re talking about a disease that’s often invisible, especially when it’s well managed. That’s why this year, we want to show others what diabetes is really like—from the perspective of people like you, who live with it day in and day out. We want to tell the world: This Is Diabetes™. | | | You know this disease best, and that’s why we’re asking you to share your story. Here are three easy ways to participate: | - Share a glimpse of your life with diabetes on social media using #ThisIsDiabetes. We’ll feature your posts, photos and videos on diabetes.org/adm, as well as on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. You can also submit your story directly to the American Diabetes Month website.
- Update your Facebook profile picture with our new This Is Diabetes frame, available on our national Facebook page.
- Sign up to be a Diabetes Advocate and make sure this disease receives the attention it deserves.
| | That last item is especially important because as advocates, we speak up for 29 million Americans with diabetes—and the many more at risk. From research labs, to the halls of the Capitol, to the offices of health care practitioners and in communities nationwide, the American Diabetes Association® is always there. | | But we can’t do it alone. Only when people who are personally affected by diabetes speak out will we educate others, break down stereotypes and create a sense of urgency about this growing public health crisis. | | Let’s make this our biggest American Diabetes Month ever. Speak up and tell the world: “This Is Diabetes!” Sincerely, The American Diabetes Association | | | |
