Life-changing, life-saving resources

Andrea, we want to thank you for your financial support – your contributions help people living with diabetes in a very direct way: providing resources, information and encouragement when they need it most.

When Jim was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes after five years of poor health, his kidneys were failing and he literally could not stand up. His doctor warned him: "Prepare yourself for dialysis."

Jim refused to accept the possibility of dialysis and completely changed his lifestyle, testing his blood sugar and adjusting his nutrition; exercising daily (his goal now is cycling 5,000 miles per year!); managing his stress level and sleep; and always logging and readjusting as needed. Jim will be the first to tell you that lifestyle overhaul is not easy. He turned to his local American Diabetes Association office in San Antonio for support - and found it.

"The staff rallied around me and helped me with all the ADA resources available—the Living With Type 2 program, Diabetes Basics, What Can I Eat and the Care4Life app. The virtual coach that sends reminders and text messages has been a huge plus—I never feel alone, I have support wherever I go!" says Jim.

Jim Saunders - WoG.jpgFour years later, Jim's A1C has dropped from 13.8 to 5.7, he's gone from stage 5 kidney failure to stage 2, and his blood pressure is back to normal!

"The education and support the ADA provides is the singular reason I am not living on dialysis and stuck in my home," says Jim, "For this, I am forever grateful."

Your support helps provide crucial resources like our Living With Type 2 program that help people like Jim learn to manage their diabetes successfully. Another resource is Diabetes Food Hub, a valuable resource for people with diabetes and for families who want to eat healthy, delicious meals. THANK YOU!

Thank you, again, for all you do to help people with diabetes live healthier, fuller lives.

P.S. This is not the end of Jim's story! We look forward to telling you how, after taking charge of his own health, Jim made another major change in his life, this time to help other people living with diabetes.
